It's possible that we miss some of God's greatest miracles because we give up WAY TOO SOON! In this ReNew study, we look at 1 Kings 18:41-46 and Elijah's example in prayer as he climbs back up Mt. Carmel to beg God to send rain. There is much to learn here about the attitude and posture of prayer! As a result, God answers and sends the rain. Where do you need "rain" in your life? What miracle are you on the verge of giving up on that may be just one prayer away? Go again to your prayer mountain and petition the Mighty Hand of God! Bible Study from May 29, 2019 at ParkerDC. Of all the things that Jesus said, this may be the hardest... "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). In this message, Pastor Joey looks at this text and we unpack the power of love over hate. God's reckless love should lead us to wild, unconditional, and reckless love as well. Instead of reversing God's standards, we must love people and hate sin, not hate people and love sin! Only love can turn the tide of lostness in our world! 1 Kings 18 reads like an old western movie. Instead of two cowboys staring at each other, waiting for one to blink, it's the prophet Elijah vs. Ahab, the Living God of Israel vs. the false gods of Baal and Asherah. After three and a half long years of waiting (the "out of season"), God sends Elijah back to the wicked king of Israel to command an ultimate showdown between in Israel. We discover God's full power on display and His desire to bring His children back to Himself as well as discipline all unbelief. This is a superhero's story, but more importantly a moment of decision to follow God! Bible Study held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at ParkerDC. Never assume the worst is over! In this message from 1 Kings 17:17-24, Pastor Joey takes us to another defining moment for God's premier prophet Elijah. After ministering to a congregation of just two in Zarephath for some time, the widow's son mysterious dies and the widow herself blames Elijah. But the prophet's faith is unmoved. Instead of combating her, he simply owns the moment and rushes the boy to his "war room", that place where He had been convening with God. He took the problem to God in desperate prayer! There is a HUGE difference between simply praying and crying out to God. Elijah cries out God to resurrect the boy AND after this persistent prayer, God does exactly that. Some miracle! But the greater miracle may have followed. The widow them professes her faith in Elijah and Elijah's God! Bible Study shared on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at ParkerDC. God is infinitely more concerned with your holiness than He is about your temporary happiness! In this second message from the Things I Wish Jesus Never Said series, Pastor Joey looks at Matthew 5:27-30 and Jesus' teaching on lust and adultery. We learn that lust is not the first incidental look, but the second. Jesus raises the standard entirely! In this hard statement (vs. 28), we see that God values all women (and all people) and that adultery begins in the heart. The key to destroying lust, however, is accountability and spiritual pursuits! Sin's bondage is broken when we allow someone access to our struggle! Waiting can be very difficult! But God is still doing something in those slow times in our life. In this podcast, Pastor Joey looks at 1 Kings 17:3-16 as God sends His premier prophet to the Brook Cherith for a slow season where he would be provided for by the ravens and this dwindling creek. But when the brook dries up, God sends His man into the belly of the idolatrous whale in Zarephath to be provided for by a poor widow. We discover that God will never do anything inconsisent with His character; however, He will do that which is inconsistent with our reason. In Zaraphath, God provides for His prophet and for a widow and son. In turn, God uses this season to humble and prepare His servant for the HUGE task ahead. What do you do when the brook dries up? Do you trust God enough to obey Him, even if it's uncertain what He's doing? Bible study shared on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at ParkerDC. Jesus was anything, but politically correct! One of the greatest neglects in the modern church are those hard Jesus sayings. But they are critical to understanding WHO Jesus is and how we are to respond to Him. In this series, "Things I Wish Jesus Never Said", Pastor Joey looks at 12 different statements of Jesus that are convicting and hard. In this pilot message, we look at Mark 2:13-17 and His statement, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners". In response to the self-righteousness of the religious elites, Jesus declares that the gospel has no such judgment. Self-righteousness is a false gospel that leaves the proud disillusioned and the lost at a distance. But Jesus came to save sinners. As a result, we have to admit that we are all broken and that there is no place for evil judgment of the lost world. Instead, we are to rescue the lost! This certainly isn't a call to moral compromise, but an understanding that heart transformation precedes behavior modification. Message preached on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at ParkerDC. Elijah was a man just like us. He had his great moments, and his regrettable moments too. In one moment, the prophet is boldly calling down fire and the next he's fleeing like a coward from an evil queen. In this first episode from our ReNew series, The Days of Elijah, Pastor Joey looks at the historical context of Israel leading up to Elijah's ministry and the obscure beginning of this remarkable prophet from 1 Kings 16-17:6. We discover a hint of what makes Elijah so supernaturally powerful... he spends time in the very presence of God! Lesson taught on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at ParkerDC. Join us for our ReNew Bible study this May and June at 6 PM as we continue in the sage of Elijah.

Jesus doesn't just do life. He is LIFE! In this Easter sermon from our mini-series EMPTY: Death TO LIFE, Pastor Joey looks at the Resurrection narrative in Luke 24:1-12,36-48 and we discover the history changing truth of the RISEN KING! Jesus GOT UP on that Sunday morning, breaking the bonds of sin and death for all eternity. The Cross is incomplete with the Resurrection. It's the Resurrection power of Jesus that brings forgiviness and life! Throughout the gospel's depictions of Jesus life and post-resurrection, His followers struggle with belief. But belief is verifiable when it comes to His Resurrection. See. Touch. Experience. Jesus GOT UP and He proved His life, power, and purpose! Do you believe? What are the consequences of this Resurrection Power in your life today? Message preached on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at ParkerDC.
